Assalamualaikum and very good morning! Its Saturday, right? heheh... :)
Today, im going to write about my experience on our Industrial Visit to Canon Opto SDN BHD.
The visit was plan by my Fellow friend, Luqman, as its a requirement to have an Industrial Visit for ESE courses. The journey start from KSJ, at 7.30 a.m.. Its 6 of December 2011. Escorting us for the visit is all the lecturer from ESE course that is Dr Kamal, En Redzuan and Mr Rasli.
The journey to reach there take about 1 hour as we reach there at 9 a.m. . After out from the bus, Dr Kamal distributed a paper that give briefly what should we have do and the timetable of the visit. Next, photograph session with canon people and then straight to the Hall. The introduction by Canon Opto, the brief history of Canon and the development in the factory. From what i get, there is two part in the Canon Opto, that is department of Lens and i dont quite remember the other one, But both operation differently with one is making a case for a lens and one is making the lens itself.
The first one we go to Surface Mount Technology section where all small part were assembly and soldered. Its large and the working environment seem to be quite not busy because the flood affecting the Thailand has tremendously reduce the amount of the part of the component needed.
After the explanation, we went to department where camera and lens were assemble. Here, we are required to wear anti static plastic on our shoes and to prevent dust on dirt from the shoes fall off in the factory. Before entering the room, i peek around and see QA(quality analysis) room ,were people work to inspect what is the defect on the camera that have return to them. They likely working on group to manage it.
Next, the person in charge brought us into the deep of the factory, ____I will update the flow later, as my note book missing___ ...In the factory, we can only see but restricted to touch anything of the component. The machine used is really advanced and the workforce is really great as people focus and concentrate on their work 100%.
The people in charge of our group said that, before they can work there, they will be given 3 month training on how to assembly the component and if the people mastered it, they can continue to training on other component assembling as they can improve their skill for a better position of job. The also RO(replacement operator) that has learn all the skill that is needed in the factory to replace someone if there is emergency.
Reaching the final stage of the visit in the department, we can see and touch as well as use the new produced camera, and there is NSC stand for Normal, Semi and Critical. Its for the part-part of the component assembling in the camera.
After finishing the visit on the camera department, we went to Lens Department were we can see how lens get from Thailand get remount and reshape. However, as i told you, the effect of Thailand's Flood is really significant, mostly, the lens department also on hold. We only managed to see a few people working.
Coming to the end of the Visit, there is Q & A session were i ask them is there any research centre for Canon in Malaysia. They answered me , there is initiative for it but end with failure. I am quite disappointed with it because if we have the research centre, it will be more interesting to see how the lens been altered.
However, the visit is great and i feel some field in Canon Opto are connect with our courses. Thank you.
Next Class--- Board Assembling
This is the second part after the first one board assembling that is required amount of time.. This time, En Redzuan ask us if we want to do another circuit but i refused to do so because i'm successfully make the board to work. Syahmi, Tew and I were the one who continue with the board given last time.
However, to kill my time, i try the first board that i done last time and try to make it work, even though the copper for the switch has fall off, i try to connect it and check if there is some error on it. The circuit successfully light up work as it supposed to. The weird is, for the second one, Firdaus, Mahmoud and Wee can be light up but not suppose to work like its should be, i try to look on it but i failed to find what is the causes of it..
At the end of the class, we all managed to finish the circuit and its should be submitted on 13 December 2011.
As i feel really satisfied that my circuit work, i feel sympathize with the one who solder it but its not work, because, the effort to solder the SMD is really tiring because we need to focus on the eyes and on the board. This is where patient is needed really-really much. That All.. Thank you
